KINGATE CAVIES

The home of happy, healthy guinea pigs

Never Forgotten

After coming back from Mid Sussex show today, 15th November 2009, I found my black boar Shadow dead.   Very surprised, he had been a little quiet for a couple of days, but seemed very quiet this morning before I left.   I had noticed he had lost a little weight, but nothing drastic, so was very surprised and sad.  RIP lovely Shadow.

Very sad, my lovely argente sow Pip has died.    She had a tooth problem and did no cope with the small amount of gas the vet used to sedate her.   I think there was something else wrong with her, maybe her heart of kidneys, the vet told me there must have been something we did not know about.   She will be greatly missed, one of my favourite pigs.   She did so well for me at shows, winning Best Argente for me and going on to do well against other non selfs, in the challenge classes.   She also used to be my avatar picture on this website.

Here is a picture of Pip on the show bench.  RIP lovely Pip, you have gone to be with your mum Squeak.

Poor Beauty had to be PTS on Friday 24th July 2009.   She had a respiratory infection and was on antibiotics, and also being pregnant did not help.   She was being looked after by Lesley at Lonestar for me while I was on holiday, but Lesley told me that the babies had died and she had started to get tox.   She went into to premature labour and could not expel the babies, so Lesley decided to have her PTS, poor Beauty, what a great shame, she was a very pretty self black.

What a real shock, I found Squeak dead in her hutch on 9 March 2009.  There was nothing obviously wrong with her that I had seen, though I did notice that she had lost a little bit of weight but she had been eating really well with Pip as usual.   This is a real shame, now I have lost all the 3 sisters, Bubble, Squeak and Piccalilli, my oldest argentes.

Unfortunately I lost Piccalilli on the 31st January 2009.   She had some trouble with her teeth and mouth which I sorted out and she was eating again, but I am sure there was something else wrong with her, that I could not find, it could well have been a kidney problem similar to Bubble.   I will really miss her, RIP lovely Piccalilli.

Very sad, but my lovely argente sow Bubble has died (29th December 2008)   She had not been right for some time, and I think she died from old age, a great shame.   She produced some lovely babies and was mother of Wonder and Jack and also grandmother of Crystal.   She was a great-great grandmother!

Unfortunately I had my fox sow Jemima put to sleep in December 2008, she really did not recover from aborting her babies and developed a fungal infection that I could just not clear up, very sad.

The lovely Topsy died on the 29th September 2008, she was pregnant from Luke and I think she had Toxaemia and the babies died inside her, just like her mum Marie!!     This is a great shame, I was hoping for my first proper chinchilla babies from two chin parents.

Unfortunately Aero died on 13th September 2008, probably from Toxaemia after having her dead babies, she was really suffering and I decided to have her PTS.  She was a very happy sow and will be really missed.   Here is a picture with her babies from last year.

I am afraid we lost Marie on 5th April 2008).   Unfortunately her babies died inside her and she must have got an infection and did not recover.   She will be greatly missed a lovely typey sow who produced some gorgeous silver chinchilla babies for me in 2007, especially my lovely Leia!

We have lost Chalkie.   She died on 31st January 2008.  She was nearly 4 years old and a dalmatian pet sow who produced some lovely dalmatian babies for me (four litters), and was a great mum.  I shall miss her very much, and all the dalmatian babies I have had have come from her.  There are many of her relatives now being shown around at the local shows.  Her grand-daughter Minstrel will hopefully have some babies this year and also her daughter Aero.

Unfortunately we lost Stevie in September 2007.   He was on loan to Smithville Stud, but he became unwell and he has died.   Great shame, he produced some lovely babies including my very successful argente show sow Pip and my new show sow Wonder.   He did become a dad at Smithville Stud again very recently, so there are a lot of his babies around, and I have his son Jack and daughter Wonder to breed from later.

Tom's lovely pet boar Sweep died in the Summer of 2007.   He was a fantastic boar that produced some really lovely babies.    He had not been well for a while, probably a kidney stone and finally he has gone to the Rainbow Bridge.   He will be greatly missed!

Here is a picture of him out on the lawn.

This was Badger.   She was a daughter of Chalkie from an argente boar, and was a very big sow and produced some super babies.  Unfortunately she died in January 2007 after having four lovely babies.  She will be greatly missed.

This was Toblerone.   He was a pet that belonged to my son Tom.   He was a rescue guinea pig from Aimwell.  Unfortunately he died from a respiratory infection that he could not fight off, poor little chap, he will be missed very much, especially by Tom!

This was Goldie.  She was a lemon argente and was mother of Squeak, Bubble and Piccalilli.   Unfortunately she died in the Summer of 2006 after having six babies in the hot weather!!!  She was a great mum and produced some lovely babies.   Her picture does not show her true colour, she was much more lemon than it shows.  I thought she should be added to this site as she is mother and grandmother to lots of my current argentes.  Sweep and Goldie were half brother and sister.  I have just named one of her great grandaughters after her.
